Birthing another redundancy again -- and again

Mr. Rewrite was pleased and relieved to have this article clarify that the first lady of France didn't give birth to a teenage girl. But the second reference to this glorious event -- "the first infant born to a sitting president" -- makes him wonder whether some other first lady or female president did indeed bring forth something other than an infant.

As junior high health class should have made clear, it's always redundant to say that a someone gave birth to a "baby boy" or "baby girl" or "infant girl" or "infant boy." Yeesh.

All one has to say is the first lady gave birth to a girl and that it's the first child born under these circumstances.
